We have been doing a lot more reading in the classroom, and while I absolutely LOVE to hear them reading, I sometimes wonder if they tire of it.
Today a student said, "Mrs. Maatman, I didn't think I was going to like reading, but it's really fun!" And a chorus of voices piped up saying how much they like reading and how it's getting easier. :) We often spend time during our devotions talking about loving our neighbor- why we must love our neighbors and how we can show love to our neighbors. For some reason for the past few days we have talked about what we should do if someone is talking bad about someone else. This topic was brought up in one of our chapels and it has stuck with the kids. They are very earnest as they say "we would never do that" and I believe they would not....at this age.. so I always remind them never to do it, even when they are older.
Today I asked them, "What should you do if you hear someone talking badly about someone else?" A hand shot immediately into the air and in all seriousness a student replied, "Scream out loud." A proper horrified reaction to "backbiting". :) We have been talking about President's Day in class and the 2 Presidents whose birthdays we celebrate- George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Or, as 1 student told his/her parent, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln Log.
That's what I call my kids these days- my left hands. I have a perfectly functioning right hand and a completely useless left hand - so the kids are my "left hands".
Today, for some reason, we got on the subject of age. I told them I was 50- that's half way to 100!!! They didn't seem too impressed. Then 1 little boy informed that I am "way older than his dad". Another child then told me his dad is older than me, "he's 63"- which I know he is not 63, he is in his early 30's, but I let it go:) And finally, another little boy told the class that his dad is almost 70. HA. I am not giving out names, but apparently they think I am quite a bit younger than some of their dads. I don't have a problem with that.
Love these kids. |
